1) identification, 2) creation, 3) community, 4) housekeeping
(Last few days) photographing journals to archive source materials. Two journals completed, three more to go. Backing up writing took almost two days, backing up sound files took over three days; labeling my studio computer as a legacy machine is a kind understatement. Attempting to install scanner software on laptop computer but no success. Refining outline of teaching book and filling in some material.

1) identification, 2) creation, 3) community, 4) houskeeping
(last few days) streamlining studio to bare essentials and moving upstairs to armoire that can be closed up and hidden completely. Some recognition the effort to turn large portion of basement into studio was a disservice to creative process and more about the image of having the space than actually usability. Now the setup is similar to other times when I have been more productive with music. Some hope here. Discovering external hard drive had gone unstable and no backups of artifacts now existed. Bought a new one, began backing up studio computer today, writing laptop tonight or tomorrow. Watching Dexter (season 6) and American Horror Show (season 2). Some success on Twitter posts, building community. Naquin sending me new methods and efforts in images he will apply to cover for ...fence posts rotting in the acreage... book cover and musical accompaniment album (http://timcoalman.bandcamp.com/). Tracking dreams in smartphone.

1) identification, 2) creation
(last two days) Tedious and incremental progress on full scripting of...fence posts rotting in the acreage... chapter 13. 2) creation, 3) community
(last few days) Finished transcribing steno notebook into journal proper. Tracked conversation with mom. Twitter activity feeling mildly natural. Trade-in of old phone for new provides much higher quality built-in camera than I had been using.

2) creation, 3) community
(today) Part of Naquin's agreement to collaborate on new covers for ...fence posts rotting in the acreage... book and soundtrack was for me to begin utilizing social media. Twitter account now established, though I suspect Naquin will insist I use it. Also continuing work on transcribing steno notebook.

3) community
(yesterday) Drinks with Naquin and his lady - planning out the cover he will do for ...fence posts rotting in the acreage... book and cover for book soundtrack. Hours of fevered shop talk and orientations on current art efforts and passions. Naquin insists on repercussions to his involvement - an actual printed version, revised website, social media, and payment. Agreed.

- (today) Backing up phone to primary computer, hundreds of voice memos of conversations, routines, environmental sounds, dreams, et cetera.

1) identification, 2) creation
- (today) Wrote dialogue from the boys, notes for teacher book, and enjoying Atop the Fourth Wall. Researching Prismacolor pencils to buy with funds from students.
- (last week) Archived internet bookmarks. Included below as a reference of sites I spend most of the two or three hours I read daily. Not included - all published books and periodicals, bookmarks on phone, links that too directly point at my public/work persona, pornography, and random links or pages visited that I have not thought to bookmark. Some of these I read daily and comment as a member, others are not visited for months at a time.

1) Identification, 2) creation
- (last few days) uploaded zoom to studio computer, sounds files going back at least a year - evidence that engineering efforts are in cold storage while writing. pleased to find that cd release show for yuck ratz tracked well, no clipping and adequate headroom. they played the cd and then two new songs to end the set; the zoom ran out of memory after the first new song, reminding me to keep it empty of nearly so instead of allowing files to be on there for so long.
- slight work on the great falling away
- plotting changes in website to post all of ...fence posts rotting in the acreage..., enamored enough with A Moment of Cerebus daily posts to imagine emulating, but thinking better to have chapters posted, or books entirely right up to current efforts, chapter 13.

2) creation
- (last two days) grouping, sorting, and recycling illustrations according to quality and similar characteristics for inclusion in books. beginning editing of tracks of Jones beating mother with extension cord for inclusion on ...fence posts rotting in the acreage... book soundtrack; such a wealth of damaged childhood.
Tuesday, August 7, 2012
2) creation
- (today) light work on ...fence posts rotting in the acreage... chapter 12, copying over photos from family computer to laptop for future use, tracking aftermath of frightening two teen girls at gas station who trashed the soda area with straws and lids, causing alarm, fear, and rapid backing up in their car and crashing into a refueling van, meeting one's dad, talking him down, and several police. great quote early in the day written in notebook.

1) creation
- (last few days) tracking high level damage control meeting within school district - primarily for protection against shit-storms that may take shape regardless of me but might still stain me in the tossing off.
- days to fix website www.timcoalman.com as somewhere in process of updating link to bandcamp page and fixing off-set link fields, saving as web page, transferring to flash drive, uploading through ftp - the main page acquired an "official_website" page name instead of the "index" label that had been there in the past. this effectively substituted the page name and left all links and loading of page at error messages. finally noticed the change and had to backtrack through previous versions of website stored on computer to find what had been changed.
Sunday, October 30, 2011
2) creation, 3) community, 4) housekeeping
- (last few days) reconnection with Naquin, short talk but the recurring lament for intersecting times. substantial work-up of bandcamp page, http://timcoalman.bandcamp.com/, and thrill to discover uploading of .wav files is supported at higher than cd rates of 16 bit and 44.1 kHz - so hours to save ...fence posts rotting in the acreage... book 1 soundtrack pieces at rates that equal the quality they are tracked and mixed in.
- updating of www.timcoalman.com so "soundtrack" link connects to bandcamp page.
- tracked one of Ian's dreams - first telling, instead of having him repeat.

2) creation, 4) housekeeping
- (last few weeks) on-going organization and de-weeding of sound files. several pieces nearing completion for ...fence posts rotting in the acreage... book soundtrack and sorting clips of the boys into years as well as sample rates. various notebook entries. decision also made to combine book 1 and 2 of ...fence posts rotting in the acreage... into one volume, approximately 400 pages; the 200 pages per book attributable to early coveting of multi-book series instead of one or few phonebook installments - Pirsig would be disappointed.
Sunday, October 2, 2011
2) creation, 3) community, 4) housekeeping
- (last few weeks) substantial progress on organization of all music, including last few pieces for ...fence posts rotting in the acreage... book soundtrack. hundreds of tracks reevaluated for potential, at least half deleted, others reworked and filed away in categories for future use. notebook entries. found dictation software I'd used in studio (dragon) now available as free app. for iphone. tracking a few sounds and discovering several sound design websites (my favorite - http://socialsounddesign.com/) that are as relevant to the way I form musical pieces as the community on tape op message board http://messageboard.tapeop.com/.

2) creation, 4) housekeeping
- (last few weeks) tracking sound artifacts and dreams. working on book soundtrack to ...fence posts rotting in the acreage... and evaluating/sorting all sound files for workflow - categories now include 1) sound artifacts, 2) timcoalman sound (book soundtrack), 3) pre-commissioned, 4) conversations, 5) Teeple (archival of his work done together or shared with me), and 6) family (primarily the boys' dreams and stories).
Tuesday, August 16, 2011
2) creation, 4) housekeeping
- (last two weeks) journal entries and collecting photos from phones and computers to back them up on primary computer. pulling audio files from zoom h4 and small digital recorder. working on music for ...fence posts rotting in the acreage... book soundtrack and also organizing material under "pre-commissioned" folder.
Tuesday, August 2, 2011
2) creation, 4) housekeeping
- (last few days) several notebook entries on dreams and artifact pieces. collected photos from various devices and computers and put on my computer. organized and sorted dozens of audio files. backing up small digital recorder to computer (why do I keep using this equipment when the zoom H4 would be better for immediate uploading instead of tracking from headphone jack to mixer?). backing up all files to external hard drive. realization that soundtrack is not done for ...fence posts rotting in the acreage... book 1 - having miscalculated final running time.
